I get 12 mpg, but that's because I drive 4 miles to and from school in stop and go traffic.

15 or so city, depending on speed. 20 or so Highway. I've gotten 22, OD and about 65mph or less. You have to work that automatic to get it to stay in overdrive.

Thanks for the info guys. The mileage dosnt seem to bad at all! My "city" driving is mostly 30mph (there are 45/55mph road options a few roads over which I usually take to avoid the stop lights) so hopefully I can average high teens in the city.

Now to go look at these trucks I would be all over the 5 speed if it was solely for me...but sadly I need to be able to have my girlfriend/parents drive it (not clutch friendly!)

Update:

I called the guy about the 2001. Its listed at 80k miles making his asking price of 5900 not too bad... He then explained the "story" (I hate that!). The deal is, the body/frame has 120k miles on it, but the motor only has 50k. About 10k miles ago his motor locked up so he put a 4.7 from another 2001 in it, so now the engien has 50k, the body 120k.

He said he has 3k in receipts from the motor, and in the last year it has new tires (33" mud terrains, a leveling kit and all new brakes/shocks which he has receipts of 2500 for).

It has a bull bar and a diamond plate tool box, with a spray in bed liner.

I asked how negotiable he is on the price. (he is listed at 5900). He said if I came by with 4700 he would let it go. Knowing the history of the vehicle...do you guys think this sounds ok? Should I offer 4500? (maybe go up to 4600?)

I am going to look at it tomorrow before the sun goes down to get a good luck at it. I also told him we would need a little time to start/run it and drive it around. Hopefully no leaks/grinds/ticks/knocks etc.

It sounds like most of the wear items have been replaced...He said shocks, so not sure if ball joints were done or not.

What all coudl this truck possibly need outside of huge catastrophic problem? Ball joints? Axles? I am not sure what else commonly goes on a dak frame with 120k on the odo.

Any help is appreciated!!! The price seems good, but 4500-4700 and having to dump 1,000 into would suck, so hopefully you guys can steer me at what to particularly look for!

Ya i have slowed the F*&ck down lately with gas going up, and a fear of tickets (being in criminal justice, many departments dont like you have tickets).

So I usually drive 9-10mph over (75 in a 65) and just cruise.

ANy opinions on that dakota ^ ?

I just called to find out it originally was the 4.7...tranny is the original (from the 120k body).. Title is clear, and its in hand.

Does anyone know someone that can check the VIN For me? I hate to pay carfax for it.. I would gladly paypal someone a few bucks to have it checked for me!

VIN: 1BGG22N61S149260

4700 sounds decent as long as it runs good

hmm, I have used carfax when looking into daks and never had the vin come up wrong. There could be something to that if the motor is different, I might be a little suspecious on that one.

I screwed up...it does show up now. Hopefully someone has the full carfax membership thing and will run it for me and I can pay them a few bucks.
