Synthetic or not?
I do not know too much about synthetic oil but I was wondering if 97k is too many miles to start running it. Its a 4.7 and right now its just conventional oil. I heard that with too high of miles it can actually work too good and clean everything out and clog up everything with the build up that it cleared away. Just looking for the do's and dont's with synthetic i guess.
Changed mine to synthetic at 90k not sure what was run in it before but it runs like a champ still 18k later no leaks or problems with anything...if you do it change it at 3k for the first 2 or three times them after that you can stretch it out more, i do mine anywhere from 3k to no more than 5k but thats just me. Lots of good sites out there on the debate bob the oil guy is one that comes to mind many more. I'd suggest Mobil 1 5w-30 (Regular, High Mileage, Truck and SUV, whatever) and a Mobil 1 or Napa Gold Filter. A good filter is the main thing you want to get.

I agree, except I did my first after change with Synthetic after about 1700-2000, depends on your driving. Mine was definately nasty.
that's what i mean with the good oil filter the oil will handle it for sure but you need to either use a good oil filter and even with that its a good idea to change the filter around 5-7k then you could get 12-14k out of it and about my change intervals lol I'm just **** about it and like to know its done its only $40 bucks and will probably be only $35 or cheaper now that my buddy has a commercial account at the advanced auto he works at. A 5 gallon jug and quart bottle is only like 30 bucks at walmart then a 10 dollar mobil one filter
Yea that is true. Right now I have mobil 1 oil and a mobil 1 filter installed and 10k is coming up in about 1000 miles.
Next change, I will start changing it at 7500. I think that should be alright.
Thanks once again for the tips man.

I switeched to syn at 70k, then at 100k, i switched to High Milage Syn.
Ive used Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and Amsoil, all work fine...
also i change mine every 3-5k miles on syn. 10k is way to long.

10k did seem long, but it says right on the bottle, good for 10k. I guess I should start changing sooner huh?
I didnt really notice a difference in motor oil vs. synthetic oil, I just know that its better for my truck. And I dont have to change as often.
