how in the ......... do u get the door bell to stop ringing where is it and can i just unplug it i mean like i dont no that my key is in the truck and my door is open ??? yet if the truck is running and my door is open it doesnt make the noise how stupid?

 

its just a reminder, stop leaving your keys in the ignition, or pull them out just a hair

 

It is annoying I know what you mean when your trying to work on it with the door open or something and the radio on, I took the buzzer out of my Cherokee and then when I gave it to my sister she left the lights on and killed the battery twice so I put it back in. In that it was just a black rectangular box that plugged into the fuse panel under the dash it was like a fricken loud *** buzz though, I've yet to look for the one in this but I'm sure its somewhat the same maybe look for something on the fuse panel lid that says something about that and pull it out.

DESCRIPTION
A chime warning system is standard factory-installed
equipment on this model. The chime warning
system uses a single chime tone generator that is
integral to the Central Timer Module (CTM) to provide
an audible indication of various vehicle conditions
that may require the attention of the vehicle
operator. The chime warning system includes the following
major components, which are described in further
detail elsewhere in this service manual:
† Central Timer Module - The Central Timer
Module (CTM) is located on the cowl side inner
panel, below the driver side end of the instrument
panel. The CTM contains an integral chime tone generator,
integrated circuitry, a central processing unit,
and the programming to provide all of the proper
chime warning system features based upon the monitored
inputs. The CTM circuitry monitors hard
wired switch inputs as well as electronic messages
received from other electronic modules in the vehicle
over the Programmable Communications Interface
(PCI) data bus network.
† Door Ajar Switch - Door ajar switches are
integral to each door latch. These switches provide
inputs to the chime warning system indicating
whether a door is opened or closed.
† Headlamp Switch - The headlamp switch is
located on the instrument panel outboard of the
steering column. The headlamp switch provides input
to the chime warning system indicating whether any
interior or exterior lighting is turned On or Off.
† Ignition Switch - A key-in ignition switch is
integral to the ignition switch. The key-in ignition
switch provides an input to the chime warning system
indicating whether a key is present in the ignition
lock cylinder.
Hard wired circuitry connects many of the chime
warning system components to each other through
the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired
circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which
are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by
many different methods. These circuits may be connected
to each other, to the vehicle electrical system
and to the chime warning system components
through the use of a combination of soldered splices,
splice block connectors, and many different types of
wire harness terminal connectors and insulators.
Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring
information includes wiring diagrams, proper
wire and connector repair procedures, further details
on wire harness routing and retention, as well as
pin-out and location views for the various wire harness
connectors, splices and grounds.
The CTM chime warning system circuitry and the
integral chime tone generator cannot be adjusted or
repaired. If the CTM or the chime tone generator are
damaged or faulty, the CTM unit must be replaced.

 

idk, i can have my doors open and radio on no dings

 

if the keys forward with all the other accesories on it doesn't ding its when its backwards it will keep dinging

 

i don't know about dakota's, but on my ram there is an electrical connector plugged into the ignition switch that tells the truck the "key is in". i removed my column covers and unplugged that connector to silence the door open dinger. no ill effects.

 

so it sounds like its not just a rip it out kind of thing anymore like they used to be i hate that thing try to hang out with people have your radio on and door open and you hear ding ding ding

 

if you have a decent battery and its not going to be for a super long time i'm sure if you put the key forward it won't hurt it too much, then it won't ding after like 5 seconds.

 

Not sure if the newer models are different, but on my 97 Dakota. If the door is shut when I turn the key back THEN open the door It's not dinging. But... if my door is open when I turn the key back it starts to ding. I just have to shut the door and re-open it, then it quits.
