Default Do I need to adjust the bands?

Hey fella's,
I'm an old man...well, only 60, and just acquired this 1997 Dakota Sport 5.2 4X4. I'm reading the manual, it says to adjust the transmission bands. I just completed drilling a hole in the transmission pan and then welded a nut to the outside cuz I like to drain the tranny when I drain the oil...I'm a stickler for new fluids...I've never adjusted a transmission band in my life, and the vehicle seems to shift perfectly. What's with all this adjusting the bands stuff in the manual? I read how to do it...don't have an "inch" torque wrench...to adjust or leave alone...that is the question.
Lot's of cool trucks to be seen on this site. Boy did I make a good trade in obtaining this truck...I think!

make sure you put mopar atf+4 in the transmission only. as for band adjustments, if she shifts fine, i personally wouldnt bother with them.

Thanks for the replyFOx672.
I put my old 1965 GMC on Craigslist and I had people wanting to buy it from all over the country. A guy called me and asked if I'd trade for a 1997 Dodge Dakota Sport 5.2 4X4 and am I glad he did...cuz now I have a real truck...talk about power...wow!
I'm tickled...and just wanna check everything out before I start to drive it.
I'll leave the bands alone.
Many thanks!
Signed,

bands should be adjusted i think from 50-70k maybe less. not sure.

But if you don't have in. torque wrench DO NOT mess with them... they have to be torqued to spec and adjusted properly or it can can major problems.

If you really want it done take it to someone who knows for sure how to do it.
