im going to build a wooden box and ratchet strap it down then load sanbags into that box which keeps them from getting tossed around. my experience is that i get the best traction with the weight directly over the rear axle between the wheel wells. just my .02

i just put my 250 pounds in the back, at the tailgate,
always worked best for me, i could actually lose some weight, dropped the rear suspension a full inch.5

Keeping the sandbags/weight directly over the rear axle or a little foward will make skid recovery easier. I have six 70Lb sand tubes in the bed, and if they slide to the tailgate, I can feel difference in corners.

true, you wont have the weight swinging around,
didnt think of that, maybe if the weather is nice enough tomorrow i'll move my weight and test it out in the next snowstorm

Before I made my truck into 4wd I would have some problems with snow. My tricks were I had a locker in the rear end and I would keep a Nice shovel in the bed of the truck. I never had to put weight in my bed. But then again we would only get snow 2 times a year. I would just keep a soft foot to keep the most traction I had. Of course the snow chains are nice. I have the ones you can slip on in less then a min. a tire. Nice snow tires are great! I also have these metal tracks you can slip under the tires to help gain traction.

learn to drive in the ****. Im sure of most of the people here I get snow the longest. Once it snows and stays usually January it's here for 3 months. Icy and snow. never got stuck even with mud tires. Of course i have 4x4 but i never used it only once maybe. But it's good to know how to drive and purposely do fish tails and what not than you know how to keep going. my street never gets plowed it is usually pure ice. I am also on a hill, and have to drive up and I do it in two wheel drive.

I know how to drive in snow, in fact its fun when you have an opportunity to screw around but any other time it annoys me. I live on a street that never gets plowed about 1/4 mile long and when no one's comming the other way i drive sideways the whole 1/4 mile at 30 mph. Ive never even come close to getting in an accident in the snow, but when you want to actually get moving and youre sitting there spinning your tires it gets annoying.

Haha Varsis, where are you from?
I am in Northern BC and we get snow from October until May/June normally.
