Frankly you need both. I've had really good tires but without any weight they barely help.

I know im just saying if i had to pick between the two i would take a good set off tires. Weight wont do anything to help you turn or stop.

we have snow only tires on the plow (f250) at work, always in 4wd.
takes nothing to slide the rear end around, you make a turn and it will just break loose

and weight is instrumental in turning and stopping, ive had the rears lock up without weight, damn near killed myself, and try turning with your *** end always reaching out into the opposing lane

Weight is an enemy of stopping and turning. When you throw that extra weight around in a corner its like having someone pushing on your rear end when you go around a corner. Plus the more weight you have the harder it is to stop, thats basic physics.

Iv gone through winters with snow tires and weight and it was okay but not too good. Then I had a winter I put a pair of studded snows on it and didnt even have any weight and that was the best winter I had. Theres one corner by my house that people always go off of and I did once or twice but as soon as I got studded snows it was like driving in rain which is nothing hard to do.

Just going of my past experiences I would say I rather have a pair of studded snow tires then 250lbs in the back. But thats just me.

studded snow tires are too much around here since the roads are clear most of the time. they are legal, but i dont need to buy snow tires, i have run these tires almost 4 years now,

so all season tires and weight is my solution, works great for me,

the weight actually makes turns easier for me, dosnt throw the rear around at all and i hardly notice the weight when stopping or accelerating, the rear tires do not lock up when i have the weight,

I guess its just a different situation. I live in CT and we get a good bit of snow and I go to college in Vermont where I might not see pavement for a week or two, so studded snows are practical for that. But I do see what you are saying.

Yeah they don't use much salt in CT. In the past couple years they started spraying stuff on the bridges and cold spots before a storm now. Im not real sure what it is though. In Vermont they just don't plow the roads lol.
