It's a thin black plastic box maybe an inch thick, and 6 by 8 inches wide. It's behind the driver's kick panel and has a plug with a lot of wires going to it. The one from the Durango may work but the Durango would have to have the same options as your Dakota. Keyless entry, fog lamps, etc. Even so, once you get the donor CTM installed, it still needs to be programmed to your truck at the dealership with the DRB tool.

Default thanks

thanks jimmy I went to work today ,where the truck was stranded and everything worked again ,head lights will still flicker , took off the kick panel and i see that box , there is a few wiring harnesses hooked to it , and why would the dealership say its behind instrument cluster . they want $371.00 for the ctm plus $75.00/hr to change. the durango sle model if it had more options would that matter thanks

No idea why they would say it's behind the cluster, unless they just did not know. If the donor CTM is from a truck with more options than your truck it probably would still work but no matter what it still has to be programmed to your truck with the DRB tool. That has to be done so your original keyless entry remotes will work with the new CTM and it also tells the new CTM what options you have when they enter the VIN with the DRB tool. If I were you, before you buy it I would be very certain the junk yard will give you a refund if their used CTM doesn't work in your truck.
