Default Sub location options

Hello everyone, I had this posted in the audio section, it got quite a few views, but no replies. Hopefully they'll be more traffic here.

So I've read threw about 10 threads on sub locations for 2nd gen dodge trucks. Most of them were talking about how to get good bass without taking up space in the back seats.

However, I don't want a TON of bass. I think one nice 10" sub w/ a decent enclosure would do fine. I really use the back seats a LOT, I've always got friends with me, so I definitely want to keep it free.

I have just a couple of questions:

1.) What are my options for subs underneath either of the front seats? Anyone have just one sub under their seat? Would I want to go w/ two subs, one underneath each seat?

2.) What are my options for the drivers side storage bin. I don't use it at all and I think a nice 10" would fit under there. Will I have enough air there for a sub enclosure to sound decent?

I apologize in advance for knowing next to nothing about car audio.

Thanks in advance for the help! Also, if anyone has pictures of a similar setup to what I'm looking for, I'd love to see them. I searched google for 20 minutes to no avail :-(

Almost forgot to say, this is for a '97 Dakota Regular cab.

I have seen those, and they're awesome. I just can't spend that much money on it, the lowest I've seen it is $270, for JUST the enclosure.

I'm really trying to keep this around $200 if it's possible.

not to be an *** but.. LOL! 200$? the amp alone will cost almost that if not more.

Also are you sure its a 97 single cab, sounds like your talking about a club cab. Im a bit confused.

Fitting a sub under the front seats is impossible if its a single cab, in a club cab yes you can fit 2 10s under the seats, 2 10s is overkill... 1 10in will be fine. Just make sure its not a cheap *** setup like a sony explode system. Go with a good brand, Alpine, JBL, Kicker, ect.

I have in my single cab r/t

1x 10in Alpine Type-E sub
1x 200w Alpine V-Power Amp (mono)
1x Kenwood CD Deck with Ipod interface attached.

I never listen to the radio or cds, all my music is loaded on my ipod in my glovebox ran to the back of the Deck, none of that "transmitter" crap.

The 10in sub is behind my passanger seat, i tell my friends its a sports truck not a minivan so i never allow more then 1 other person in it at a time, and if they dont fit they dont ride... i have a 6' 3" friend and he fits but kinda tight... he gets over it, girls fit fine as long as there *** doesn't overlap the bucket seats you should be good.

amp is mounted under the passanger seat, never allow people to put any type of liquid that can spill if you take a turn.. and you wont have a problem.

ran all my wires under the carpet to the rear and under the sub box and into the amp nothing shows and its load as hell in a single cab and i have the sub EQ set to 0.. if set to +10 you cant breathe.

sub alone was about 200

amp alone was about 200 or more

wire kit was about 90$

box was about 40$

Deck was over 300$

i installed it, and at the time i worked at Best Buy and got all this **** with a massive 40-60% discount and i still ended up spending about 3-400$ on it..

i also bought this stuff like 3 years ago, so it might be cheaper, but i think they discontinued my amp.

Yeah systems get expensive. If your only looking to spend $200 you will be lucky to get anything, and if you do it will sound like junk. You get what you pay for.

My advice save up a little longer and do like User said and get a decent quality system.

Also one of my friends make a center council in his reg. cab that fit 2 6x9s. If your not looking for an ear bleeding bass than this could be an option.

There is a box made by ASC (I believe) that is supposed to be pretty nice. I think it's supposed to have .65 cubic ft air space which would be ideal for some shallow mount subs. I know Kicker and Memphis make a shallow mount that would fit pretty good in it. I'm probably actually about to do one of their boxes and build a center console amp rack for both the sub amp and component amp.

Don't go cheap or you'll regret! Think about what you want and go get it. I always do amp and sub and some nice door speakers because I like the clarity. I'm not one of those guys that likes to be heard from a few blocks away etc. I'm not going to say I wasn't at one time, but I am not anymore. But I do like to hear what I'm listening to, in the best quality possible!

This used to be what I rocked!

If your on a limited budget, try ebay, I've bought a 2500w amp for less than 1/2 the retail price, and it works great. Just try to buy it from a ebayer with a good feedback record.

Go with "Kicker", Great sound!

As far as the box, just go to a good sterio shop and get a quote on a custom built box for your vehicle, I had one made for my RAM for $300 its wrapped in the same leather as my factory interior. My box has 2- 12" Kickers, your setup should cost far less.

Here in SoCal I recommend Pacific Sterio.
