Default dakota ran ok, replaced plugs & wires, now wont start!

I took care to replace the wires in my 97 dakota v6, one at a time to make sure they were put back in the right order... so im 99% sure the wires are in the right spots. But when I try to start it now, it makes a sound like two clicks and the electric power in the truck dies. i can disconnect the battery and reconnect it and the power comes back, but when i try to turn it over, the power cuts out again. its like some kind of safety mechanism is kicking in when i try to turn it over. Could it be a fuse? or am i wrong and i somehow put the wires on wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated!

that clicking noise sounds like the starter isnt getting juice or there's a flat spot on the armature in the starter (common on older starters). whats the voltage at the battery?

sounds like your battery is weak. what is the voltage on the battery? or just give it a jump and see what happens
