Default What Vehicle(s) Use This Transfer Case?

I have a NP 242 D transfer case. I've researched and figured out it's from a Dodge, but what models/years?

after a little searching i've found that it was optional on the durango's i'm not sure if it came on the daks. the dakotas came with the np 231 which is 2wd part time 4wd hi neutral and 4wd low. the np 242's pattern is 2wd part time 4wd hi full time 4wd hi neutral and 4wd low. these both came on most jeeps as well. and im not sure if those are the same patterns but thats the options you can choose from. with experience with both i like the 231 better even though it doesn't have full time i had it in my cherokee and its in my dak and i've never had a problem. my dad has the 242 in his jeep and its not bad unless you wanna lift it there can be problems lol sorry for my rambling hopefully this helps a little maybe if you can get us some more info like what you plan on doing or what its from or going in would help out.

heres a good site on it that i've used in the past: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np242.htm

Well here's my situation. I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 L6 automatic transmission and NP249 transfer case (quadratrac). I was doing the 249 to 242 swap, but I accidentally bought the NP242D instead of the NP242J. I swapped input shafts and it bolted directly up to the tranny. The front driveshaft fits perfectly as well. But now I can't figure out what vehicle the 242D came off of, so I can't figure out what yolk/driveshaft to put on the back. My driveshaft yolk is too small and I tried a 1998 Durango today and the yoke was too big! I might end up putting a 249 back in, I wanted part-time 4wd and the 2wd option, but now I think I'm just going back to the stock NP249.......

http://www.drivetrain.com/transfercaseappdodge.html

1998-2000 DTS315-1 NP242D 23 splines front input, 32 spline rear slip w/o speedo hole, fixed front output oke, four wire shift indicator switch

1998-2000 DTS315-2 NP242D 23 Spline input, 27 spline slip rear, two piece tail housing w/o speedo hole, two wire indicator switch, .840 exposed input gear

1998-2000 DTS315-1 NP242D 23 splines front input, 32 spline rear slip w/o speedo hole, fixed front output oke, four wire shift indicator switch

1998-2000 DTS315-1 NP242D 23 Spline front input, 32 spine slip rear, w/o speedo hole, fixed front output yoke, four wire shift indicator switch

My simple answer, is that to count the splines, and go from there. 32 and 27 are both common that im aware of, so shouldn't be hard to find the right yoke.

says 97 and newer Dak's/Dur's.

ditto

Maybe look at the major/minor diameters and compare to a junkyard set?
