hmm, you know, exhaust tip size really does have me wondering. my first cat back (dynomax) had 2 1/2" outlet tips whereas my 2nd system (magnaflow) magnaflow tips have 3" outlets. i know 2 different exhaust systems, so its not a accurate way to prove that bigger diameter tips produce a deeper tone, but i can say my system really does hum, not much rasp to the upper end.

its like the cowbell analogy that i used in another thread, the larger the tips are, the more metal is vibrating and the lower/deeper the tone is. more metal resonating and moving is gonna give you a better sound if all else is held equal

it sounds right in principle..... then again, so does communism. i would need first hand auditory confirmation to believe it.

well you kinda have already. big cowbell vs a little cowbell. basically, the only other way would be to have an exact same exhaust on two similar trucks with two different tip sizes, just a little too much variables in that...
