Default oil pump

Hi every 1 this is my 1st day here
i just got a 2000 4.7 4 door dakota. my 3rd dakota
i bought this truck off a lady i was doing a tree job for. she told me it had started making engine sounds and she did shut it off right when she heard it
i started it up 3 times oil gauge takes a few secs to build up runs, runs and sounds great for 2 mins then oil gauge drops to 0 and lifters start pinging and i shut it off, and it has engine sludge

i have it at the dodge shop right now getting a new oil pump put in

My Q is? am i wasting my money on oil pump? should i have went with a long block? and how do i get the oil build up flushed out?

2nd Q will the bumper recever off my old 94 dakota fit on the 2000?

ty for any help

I don't know that there is a "wrong" motor oil, unless they dumped like ATF or gear oil or somethign in it.....

It may have been losing oil pressure because the sludge was blocking off the oil filter and/or pump. How thick of oil is in it? 10W-30 or straight 30 should be fine....

I use 10w30 syn,

the sludge can be broken down in each oil change if you run some sea foam in the oil for about 10min before you change it.. do it every time you change the oil 3-5k miles and it should slowly get clean again.

not sure if the 94 will fit on the 2000, since 96-97 was the crossover to the new gen.

i would toss in some high milelage syn oil 10/30 and keep it tuned up.

New oil pump might have been a good idea, or the oil just needed to be changed or "topped off"

+2 on what user did. next time as a rule of thumb, always start with the filter. i beleive the 4.7s use 5w-30. correct me if im wrong. i know the 3.9/5.2/5.9 magnum engines used 10w-30
