How much for a new A/C Compressor plus labor?
My dad's truck had the A/C compressor lock up and the clutch (on the A/C compressor) is shot. It is all bound up and will not let the engine turn over.
How much for parts? What is the going rate per hour for labor?
Is there anyway I can get the truck running so that I can drive it the 15 miles to the dealership or other shop? The truck is an automatic. 2000 Dakota 4x4, 4.7L Magnum.
Thanks,
Trevor

You can get a cheap belt for the same engine without AC and bypass the compressor so you can drive the truck. I had a shop quote me about a year ago $650 just to replace the compressor on my 3.9. I had them evacuate the system and I got my own reman compressor from Napa I think it was about $250 or $300. Then I got a new accumulator-drier at CarQuest for about $50.00 and a new fixed orifice tube from Dodge for about $15.00. I replaced all the parts myself and had Tires Plus recharge the system for $60.00 if I remember it right. That's the way they say to do it right is replace the drier and orifice tube due to shrapnel that might be in the system from the siezed compressor. Napa won't honor the warranty if you don't replace the drier and the orifice tube. They also want you to run an AC flush thru it for the warranty too. I did my whole AC job for about $500.00, but if I had paid a shop to do it, it would have been about $1200.00. My AC works great, it will cool to about 38 degrees. Your prices may be different depending on where you live.
