Default Fan Resistor Modual

The Fan control resistor modual that is in the air duct, up above the passanger foot area.
Has anyone heard that the reason this resistor keeps malfunctioning, is because of problems with the "blower motor" ?? When picking up the replacement this time they have told me that they now think this is the problem they are having with the Dakota's?
My resistor malfunctions about every 7-10 months, only letting the fan control work on some of the settings. "slow, med, high". Anyways this is my third one I will be replacing, and for some reason the prices use to be $20, and now have dropped to $10 for this item!

it's a poor design. i replaced mine with the one directly from mopar for $15. replaced it back in the summer. still runs just like when i replaced the rheostat card.
