how to stop this exhaust leak.
ok, i just put in a set of JM lt knockoffs and i have about 100 miles on them. i used seafoam today and noticed that my stand alone primary with the slip fit joint is leaking. i knew it was leaking by the sound but when i saw the white smoke coming out of it, it is leaking more than i though. what to do what to do? muffler cement? exhaust clamp? leave it longer and see if it seals on its own? idk, guys, never had a problem like this before. thanks in advance.
Any chance you have access to a welder? If it were me I would stay away from exhaust clamps cause they pinch the pipe (and I've actually had exhaust leaks get worse with them). I don't know much about muffler cement, so I have no opinion there. The best thing to do is weld it though if you can.
By the way, did you ever find your solution to those check engine lights?
And I like your avatar, thats hilarious!

yes but they are stainless and that is a motherf*cker to weld. i am a union welder and i just dont wanna have to do that. PLUS, i would have to pull the headers, and i would never want to do that again.
not yet but i know what is causing it and have ordered the appropriate fix parts.
thanks, i laughed out loud when i saw it and had to use it.

Muffler cement might work (I just educated myself on it), but its only rated to handle up to 700*F. I have a feeling long tube headers get a lot hotter than that.
I also saw while I was searching that someone used high temp RTV on their stainless steel headers. You could give that a try too, but it looks to have a similar temperature handling.
There is also JB weld, or any other high temperature expoxy based resin.
I have a feeling everything I listed won't last long before it gets burned off, but other than welding, I'm out of ideas.

Muffler cement works really good. IMO. When i used it i got a torch and heated the area so it kind of just drew it right into the openings bc of the heat. But when it sets it will last a while, but eventually it will get weak and fall apart. Hope this helps.
Personally, i have never had a problem with a clamp. To be honest i have the same set up on my truck right now, muffler cement and a clamp on it and it is sealed tighter than when it came off the assembly line. So, given that i think go ahead and use both of them and you will be golden. Good luck!
