Default First Gear Only(barely)

'02 quad cab 4.7 50k

The problem is getting consistent now. When driving the truck the first time of the day, the truck does not want to "positively engage" into gear. It'll kinda rev with no results. I've not yet tried to hammer the throttle to see if I can get it to engage, I just let the truck "warm up" down the street and then it complies. It used to do this once or twice a month, but now it's every first start. The non-funny thing is that this happened shortly after I bought it new but could not be replicated. I've had the transmission flushed and new filter/oil at around 30k
I have been battling the check engine light for the past few months. I've replaced the gas cap -no luck. Around 20k miles, the dealer had to replace the entire evap vacuum line harness. I wonder if its due again?? does the shifting utilize the vac system?
By the way, I live in Louisiana so "cold" is not really an issue!

Hello, I have a similar issue to you as described the thread "Clutch fan issue?". Might be worth it to check it out. Also, do you turn your overdrive off alot? I found that when I stopped turning my OD off in town, it doesn't seem to do it nearly as often. Let me know if that helps.

Thanks. It sure sounds like its the tranny fluid and not the clutch fan..

Found the check engine light issue. Split vacuum hose on one of the terminals. that after $20 for a gas cap I apparently didn't need.

Now to hear more about this transmission issue....
