I appreciate the buzz about the MAP.

I have a 97 w/318CIID ("5.2"). 145,000 miles or so. I'm pretty happy with performance and economy (had an 86 Commanche with 2.8 GM bent six that could hardly get out of it's own way and got 13-14 tank after tank.)

My Dak has gotten as low as 13.x to as much as 17.x on different runs.

I have a scan gauge that monitors different things: i watch TPS, MPH, inst mpg and avg (since last start) mpg on this trip.

How I drive (right foot position<G>) can make 5mpg difference. Easy.

 

Great purchase. $118 less in my bank account after visiting Napa was worth every penny. I notice way better thottle response; not sure if its just mental or true, but myself and 2 friends notice that my exhaust (just recently installed flowmaster 40 series) sounds louder too. Ill test the MPG difference next gas tank- as it seems theres some sort of magnetic force always pulling the gas pedal down to the floor

 

Wow, I've been have lots of problems getting my 95 Dodge Dakota to pass emissions. I've replaced my egr valve and a brand new Magna Flow CAT. It sounds like it may be the MAP sensor like your Durango. Mine has the 5.2 and it Always is pinging at all accelerations. Running lean and hot. And I'm getting 12mpg highway. Did you have a high readings in your emissions or do they just plug the OBD2 in? Thanks for the post...

 

Anybody with a bad map sensor had problems passing emissions? My 95 Dakota will not pass AZ.emissions My NOX is very high my reading is 4.51 and max for the truck is 3.00 I've replaced my EGR valve and also put on a new Magne Flow CAT both of them parts only lowered my reading from 5.00 to 4.51 My motor is running very lean because I have a octane ping with 91 octane I was starting to wonder if my timing jumped.Anybody believe it's the MAP sensor? Or something else? Thanks everyone!!!
A emissions shop here said they could get it to pass for 200.00 but are they going to fix it or just tweak the truck to get the truck to pass. Yes I want it to pass but I don't want them to tweak it so much I burn my motor up. Because they aren't going to care once I leave.

 

I would venture that your distributor moved and threw the ign timing off...I replaced my MAP when i changed TB's, just for good measure.

I found out the main problem they were testing my truck with the O/D ON!!!!
Also I put 3/4 of a gal. of alc in 6 gallons of fuel. When I got there I asked the manager about the O/D being off or on. She said it must be tested with it off because there mainly testing city driving. I believe that was the whole problem. So be aware of this. Thanks to the gentleman you made me aware of this....On my 95 Dakota once you start the truck you must manually turn the O/D off by the button near the headlight switch. The O/D switch will be lit. Make sure your tester does this before putting the truck in drive to begin the roller test. Thanks to all!!!!

I bought a Delphi which is who makes alot of the OEM parts you get from the dealers.. Ford, GM and so on.. for 22 bucks.. I like that alot better than cheap-o Standard or that "O.E.M" cheap brand..

 

Hi everyone,

I have a 04 Dakota, 4.7L with the cheaper map sensor. Getting 13 mpg. I probed my map sensor and get 5v on the first wire, 0 on the second, and a signal on the 3rd. The haynes diagrams says it should be 5v, signal, ground.
I get about 1.3v while idling. and it drops to 0.5v at full throttle. opposite of what it should be. Can anyone verify what the wire colors should be at the connector? The haynes book only tells you the colors but not the orientation on the connector. I wanna make sure the wiring is not faulty before I put in a new sensor.
