I just got my first dodge on friday. Its a 1997 dakota extended cab 4x4 with 3" lift and 32" tires. It has the 3.9 v6 with over 200,000 miles on it. it seems like there is no power at all. i thought maybe clogged cat. it also redlines when i punch it at 60mph and wont shift unless i let off. i was told maybe torque converter. please help me. i also want to swap in a 318. as far as i know the motor mounts are the same but what else will i need besides the motor/ will it bolt up to my transmission? thanks guys

I think Varius has the 318 mated with the 42RE(The V6 transmission), but it would probably be better off the 46RE. Not sure though. You would also need the engine computer and wiring harness and all that jazz.

 

200k miles, your 3.9 is a dog and won't move, get over it. And the tranny is probably shot at 200k.

If you wanna do a 318 swap search the forum. A lot have been done and recently huesman did one so search around. You will find stuff you need.


... and varsis did a 360 swap, but yes kept the 42re.

does anyone know why it would redline if i punch it at like 55 and not shift?
