Rack & Pinion, Tie Rod
Damn guys, this sucks to report. I got my recall done today, but while they were doing it they noticed that my rack & pinion were leaking and my left tie rod is loose. He said to completely replace it would cost $700 for ALL the parts and about $120 in labor. If I go to a small repair shop, they don't want as much for the part, but when dodge gets the assembly it comes with the rack & pinion and tie rods (complete assembly) whereas the small shop will get only the rack & pinion and then the tie rods are seperate. What is the way to go? I'm taking it in to another to check it out before I just decide to get it replaced, but I'm sure I'll just get it completely replaced. I have the money, so which is the way to go? Otherwise I asked the mechanic and manager in the service/parts area if there was anything else wrong, and the said absolutely not.. just the ball joints and now this...

no.. bought it used.. and the warranty is only like 2 months or something.. but the dealership I bought it from is gonna pay for the part and labor now. She called me today so i'm completely happy. So I went and spent $70 on window vent visors and headlight covers lol exhaust is coming next week.. and I'm getting my tonneau cover tomorrow!

Awesome, got a brand new rack & pinion installed today for absolutely nothing. Amazing.. $800 or more that I didn't have to spend! Much, much better! Now the truck is 100% ready to go!

He was serious. Auto dealers and their service departments mostly get bad press.
Usually you read something like "If you're ever in (city), (state), don't go to XYZ Dodge, they'll rip you off."
But every once in a while, there's that rare occasion when one of us will do business with a dealership who will do right by the customer, such as in your case with the new steering gear.
We can repay that dealership by naming it, giving its location and a positive recommendation in this forum.

Thats the dealership that I bought it from! I'm excited as all hell. but NOW.. I went to pickup my headlight covers.. and opened the package and took them out of the plastic, and a tab was broken on them! oh well, called and they will either have them tomorrow or friday! So, at least that is good.

I had one outside tie rod that I replaced on my 2000 Quad Cab Dakota, and it was inexpensive and an easy fix.
Im not sure, but my steering feels very tight when turning. No leaks in the front end either.
Im thinking I might have a bad rack/pinion too?
