Default question about overdrive

You guys helped me figure out that the overdrive in my truck is slipping, so I have another question. To refresh, it's a 2000 dakota QC with the 46re transmission. Ok, so I was wondering, if the overdrive is slipping, is it possible to just unbolt the overdrive unit, and replace it without dropping the transmission. Most of the time, the transmission jumps out of gear entirely between the 3-4 shift, as if it's jumping into neutral while making the shift into OD. I'm laid off right now, so I don't have the cash to have the transmission rebuilt. I know that I'd have to drop the transfer case though.

Yes, you can remove/replace just the overdrive assembly.
