Axle, Rear, Corporate 9?
there are two rear axles that came behind dakotas. the first one is the 10-bolt 8.25 rear end and the second is the 12-bolt 9.25. The 9.25 axle is a little bigger and is supposed to be a little stronger, lots of v8's came with the 9.25, but not all of them. The 9.25 will handle more torque than the 8.25.... although its by no means a bullet proof rear end.
there have also been some v6's that came with the 9.25 from the factory. It appears that there is no definate pattern of which trucks came with which axles, except for the case of R/T's... which always came with the 9.25 rear because of the massive amount of torque the 5.9 puts out. However, most of the time 3.9's came with 8.25's, but some came with 9.25's and most v8's came with the 9.25, but some came with the 8.25.
I thought the 9.25's came as an option on all trucks but was included with the towing package and the 5.9 R/T's? That's what the dealer said.
And if I remember correctly, it's called a corporate 9 because Chrysler didn't make it. It's a supplied Axle, and Corporate is either the name of the company or the same of the supplier or something like that.

Yes it is a corporate axle, meaning Chrysler didn't make it. And like Wink said its a 9.25" rear axle, open differential. If it said LSD it is limted slip, if it does not say anything, its open.

be careful tho, i have the 9.25 w/ LSD and I've already shattered my LSD clutch packs once now making just above stock power... these things aren't the best so if you are looking to make power, be sure to beef up the rear end.
Cheers.
Cheers.
