2000 dakota 4.7l 5speed manual i need a transfer case mines a 231 can i put a 242 in it? and does anyone have one?

 

Not to sure but you should know a nv242 is a full time transfer case. Mostly from jeeps. No one wants this transfer case. The upgrade you should look for is the nv241. I'm not sure what it takes to swap one on. But do a search I'm sure it has been discussed already. Check all of the forum, Rams may have done it too.

 

the 231 is pretty strong, and can be built up even stronger. Are you lifted with 35's + ?

the 241 is optimal if you are a serious crawler. its 4:1 ratio is too low for the average weekend warrior.
