Spindles 97-98, 99?
Hello! Thank you for looking.
Here's my story.
2 weeks ago working on the Drivers side brakes i accidentally stripped out one of the caliper slide pin holes. As you may know the calipers mount directly to the spindles, there is no sleeve found on this truck as is found on newer/other vehicles. So to fix it you're forced to buy a new spindle which goes for 1,000.00, or you can go to the junk yard which i did. Well i did go to the junk yard and got one, when i got back and put it together i found that the caliper didn't fit. the one required to go on it was about a inch larger, which led me to think that it might be a 99s spindle since braking on this truck may have been inadequate. Looking at the spindle and comparing the old one to the new one i saw that the only difference was the caliper size requirment was bigger and the whole unit looked more sturdy.
So here's my question, can i put the better spindle on it to give my self better braking without any other side effects?
My truck is a 97 V6 SLT 2WD with 200,000 miles on it.

make sure caliper will clear your wheel. Yes, there are 2 different brake packages for our trucks. There's a topic here somewhere.

The jist of the topic, basically, Is that until 2003, the dakota and durango had 2 identical brake systems- one bigger, one smaller.
