I need a GOOD heavy-duty battery for the,.
up-coming winter. The one in there now is getting long-in-the-tooth and
needs replacing,.. The truck is gonna work hard, (again) this winter I hope,
plowing snow. so, I need one that will hold up to getting banged around &
keep on tickin. Any ideas or good luck with a paticular brand??

How much money do you plan on spending?
A duralast battery from auto zone is a pretty good bet. I've heard nothing but good things about them.
An optima red top is always a good choice, but about 1 in every 3 or 4 goes bad within a couple months. Sometimes it takes a couple to get a good one, but once you do, they just last and last. They also have the best Cold Cranking Amps rating and reserve capacities. Then again, so does Duralast.
Basically what you want in a battery for winter is a high amount of cold cranking amps, and a good reserve capacity.
You could also look into getting a gel cell battery. They are generally lighter, and can be mounted side ways, up-side-down, etc. If you get the right one designed for a cold climate, then you'll be set for a battery for probably 10 years. But the gel cell's have a hefty price tag.

Optima all the way! Best battery I ever bought, I have 2 yellows. Just had a red die on me at 8yrs. I was buying a new one every year before the optima. I abused that battery and it keeped on kickin. No battery acid leaks, twice the charging time, twice the endurance. Fully sealed no maintenance, can be mounted any direction even upside down. I had mine sideways. And can handle twice the heat and twice the vibration. Red top for starting yellow for Deep cycle and blue top for marine. I have run mine for 12 hours straight with the radio on and can still start up the truck. But remember I got 2. http://www.optimabatteries.com/ I will NEVER buy another kind again. And they are doing a $50 mail in rebate.

Get this,I still have the original factory installed battery in my truck from 2000 and never had one problem or an issue with it,even when my alternator went bad it still hung in there.Amazzzzing huh.....
