Default 01 Slow going into Drive. Goes into R fine

The transmission shifts ok once it is in drive and seems fine other than it kind of acts like an older transmission with a vacuume leak. It takes a little more gas than I would like to get it to downshift and when you come up to a stoplight it doesnt downshift smooth, it does it a little late and hard. I just bought the truck and I really dont think it has a bad tranny I have drove cars iwth dieing trannys before and this one doesnt feel like it is dieing. It doesnt slip at all and shifts out just fine when normal driving. The truck is a 4.7L automatic 01 Dakota 4 door 2wd. If anyone knows what might be going on let me know. I already pulled the battery cables and let it set for 5 or 10 minutes to clear out the computer. That didnt change anything and I dont have any check engine lights.
