Default 1999 Dakota ABS light

It is my Dad's truck, SLT, 5-spd 318 V8. The ABS light came on and stays on. The mechanic they took it to told them it would be 1700.00 to have it replaced (ABS module). To be honest I figured a little less, but oh well. Any suggestions for me to pass on to him?

Why are they replacing the abs module? What reason did they give?

Hey man befor you go and waste money on something that might not be wrong take it to an auto parts store and have them check you computer for codes. My ABS light came on and it was just a wheel speed sensor in the rear pumpkin and it only cost about 46bucks to get it from the dealer and i replaced it my self on my r/t which is also a 99. Id start there first and trouble shhot that
