Transmission Shift issues - Guidance please
I have a 2004 Dakota 4x4 CC with the 4.7L and Auto Trans. I was on a road trip this weekend and on the way home the Overdrive wouldnt stay steady engaged. Its alwayse been a little different......
.......I would need to confirm but the transmission seem to have 3 stages after shifting from 3rd untill engaging full O/D (?lock on the Torque converter?). for example normaly when Driving 110 kph, 3rd gear revs at ~2800, OD stage 1 drops to ~2300, then stage 2 to drops to ~1900, then again if all things good we go to Stage 3 ~ 1550rpm.
The drive home was interesting, on the flats it was dancing between all 3 stages of OD without any reason and wouldnt stay engaged in any stage unless going down a steep hill, then get to an up hill and it shifted normal to 3rd to climb if needed. Seems to hold the 3rd gear without any notice of issue. Checked my fluid level and its full, fluid is clean and not any sign of burnt at all.
Any help or suggesstions befor I take it to a shop would be appreciated, or a link if this issues been discussed anywhere already.
Thanks
