Default Helping a friend

I'm helping a friend revive his 98 dakota...I havent seen it yet but I think it has the 5.9. It's been sitting for 2 or 3 years....he said the engine light is on, and the oil pressure guage does as it pleases.

It's not street legal b/c of the 3 year old stickers and such, so does Autozone rent their scanners, or does the keydance work on 98's and I can just print off the P codes in book form?

FYI, his parents have 2 vipers, 2 jeeps, a sebring, the dakota, a nismo frontier, and some other toys not neccesarily of the 4 wheeled variety. They aren't dodge/chrysler fans at all... (sarcasm)

Are you friends with anybody at Advance? I made friends with all the guys that work there as I'm a regular. They let me take the scanner, cause they know I'll bring it back.

You know, if they have 2 vipers and more they obviously aren't hurting for cash, maybe they should just go grab a scanner. The ones Advance sells are good for OBD I and OBD II, and they are about $100. Just a thought...

On the other side, I think Advance does "rent" scanners. No wrong in calling them and asking.

The turning the key on and off trick doesn't work on 98s. You will need a scanner like you thought.

hopefully one of them (O'R, AZ, Adv) do rent..otherwise i may just buy one (or as CS said, have them buy it).

My friend is at the univ dorms and truck is at his parents house 30 miles from here, so we arent sure when...but the goal is to get it running. It's lowered, has ground effects, and custom aluminum rims. White with blue racing stripes.
