Default question about timing cover

I'm about to replace the timing cover gasket, because I have coolant seeping from the two passages at the top of the cover. My question is about the oil pan gasket. My haynes manual says that I don't need to replace it if I'm careful, but I don't trust the manual 100%. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do this job with out messing with the oil pan gasket. If so, do you guys have any tips that would make this easier for me. Thanks.

I'm guessing that its a 4.7? If it is, don't even worry about the o/p gasket.

Thats ok. With the 5.9 you do have to be alittle careful not to distort the front section of the o/p gasket when you remove the timing cover. It shouldn't be a big deal to reuse it assuming you can get the cover off without tearing the lip.

Believe me, you don't want to have to replace the o/p gasket too. That will definately make for a sh**ty day.

I'm hoping for the best, and it's good it's getting done now, because I've been told that I'm finally getting called back to work. I've been laid off since March, and I'm tired of playing the house wife.
