Default Front Brakes Locking Up PLZ Help

I recently (few weeks ago) changed the front disc brakes on my '02 V8 Dokata Quad Cab. Yesterday the brakes locked up and overheated. I inspected the driver side & couldn't find a reason for the malfunction. A test drive showed no signs of the problem. Today I had the same problem after a good bit of stop & go. It seemed to be the passenger side today so I inspected that side & found no problems. I am truly at a loss here.

Since I changed the pads myself I am wondering if I did something wrong. Is there a picture somewhere so I can compare what properly installed pads look like? It seems almost impossible to put them on wrong so I am really wondering why they are locking up. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Check fluid and it could be your rubber brake lines. My uncle told me after driving for a little bit of time they like to suck them selfs shut. Mine did the same replaced them and it solved the problem. Also make sure you caliper is working properly.

I'll check them, but I find it odd this would happen so soon after changing the brakes. Also, after I took each side apart to inspect the brakes, I did not have problems with them the following day. Very odd behavior indeed. I am coming to the conclusion that this is something that occasionally happens to these calipers after compressing the pistons back into the calipers. I'll likely be changing them this weekend & attempting to get the rotors turned.

I had brake issues a lil while back too. My brakes were catching tho and a dremel fixed that issue. How are you unlocking them? Are you just backing the caliper off?

You could just get a caliper rebuild kit to save some money there but I would just get new rotors. Last I knew it was $3 more for new ones.

Just my $.02 and I hope you get it figured out

I didn't get them to unlock. After they cool off they work fine until they get hot again and the caliper won't let the piston retract. I put on new calipers, put in new synthetic brake fluid until all 4 bleeders ran clear, & had the rotors turned. I'm hoping that fixes the problem.

Sounds like a bad caliper. Wouldn't bother rebuilding them. Less hassle and just as cheap to replace em.
