22 gal tank?
I have a 2000 3.9 liter reg cab with a 5 speed.
I am curious to know if the tank really holds 22 gallons, my low fuel light will come on after 300 miles and I will fill up with only 15 gallons. (20 mpg).
I get worried when that light comes on and I HAVE to fill it up.
Is the gas light super sensitive, can I go further?
Thanks,
Kevin

ive got the 4.7 and it does the same thing the light will come on at 250 and ill fill up about 16gal, ive ran it to 350miles and the gauge was below E and only filled up 20gal its really annoying, i wonder if there is a way to change it, or if they use a float system for the guage if it sits to high in the tank
ive ran mine down to E quite a few times and the most ive ever put in it was like 17.5 gallons. One of these days, when I have nothing to lose I'll just let it run out of gas and see how much it takes to fill up... I bet it really only holds like 20 gallons.
i too have the 22 gallon tank and can confirm it holds 22 gallons.. id used to fill up 21.XX gallons whenever i was on E.. overtime the gauge began reading wrong and i fill up from E at 17 gallons. when my buddy had is 02 dakota, same exact thing.
Most Dodge low fuel lights come on with 5 gallons to spare, mine does it at 17 gallons every time, I've put over 21 gallons in before. Do you honestly think your vehicle is all of sudden going to run out of fuel right after the light comes on?

yea i always let my vehicle run to about 325 to 350 till i fill up and the light comes on at 350, someday im just gonna put a 5gal jug in the bed and drive around until it runs out, im thinking seeing how far i can make it into North Carolina seeing as how gas is usually cheaper there and im like 10min from the border
Its not a good idea to run the gas down that far! The fuel is what cools the pump, and if you make a habit of running down to where you have to put 20, 21 gallons in it, you'll burn the pump out prematurely.
I once put 17.8 gallons in my 17.5 gallon Explorer tank, THAT was cutting it close
