My brother in law took his cat off kinda but the problem was they also have a visual inspection for the cat so he went out to the garage cut it open then put a piece of straight pipe threw the middle then welded the out sides back together didnt look too bad and no one could tell.

I don't want to lose any power because of gutting the cat, so if I have to, I'll wait a bit until I have the money to buy a free flowing cat from summit. I guess I'm waiting until tax time to set it up the way I want.

so with the o2 sensor at the rear of the cat for emissions and the engine will run just fine with that code tripped?

There's a muffler shop right by my work and they said they would do it for $75. They also said they'll put some sort of plug on the o2 sensor to prevent the CEL from coming on. Does anyone have any information on any of these plugs? Id rather spend the 30-45 minutes myself to use my sawsall for 2 simple cuts and place a pipe in there; I just need to figure out what type of plug or connector they were talking about

How much louder do you think my exhaust will be? 10%, 25% 50%? If my cat is as crappy as I think it is (clogged, old, P.O.S) will I be able to feel any additional power even if its only a 1-5hp gain?

Your truck should be drastically louder. I was thinking of doing the same thing with my 318. my cat rattles from time to time so i know its blown plus my mechanic told me so anyways. my buddy did it to his ram with the 360 and it was significantly louder when he gutted the cat. sounds great too. I'm sure if you just put a pipe there it'll sound just as loud or maybe a little louder bc its just straight through. if you do it let me know i wanna know how you did it seeing we got the same truck

they are likely talking about a o2 simulator. they can be plugged into the rear o2 only. its for those who want to run the straight pipe without a CEL.

Get a better muffler. I have a single 3" cat and my exhaust is PLENTY loud and obnoxious and yet it's mellow while cruising, it's also not in violation of federal law nor does it smell like a 71 nova..
