Default clueless about exhaust

I have an 02 Dakota, 3.9.... I want to run true duals in it, though many tell me it's a stupid idea. what would be the best way to do it and what kind of cost am I looking at... i dont know how sensors and all work, but im going to get headers, i think there's a sensor you have to swap when you do that, but i dont really know... then each pipe will go into two Cats, whatever i can afford, then into two performance mufflers, then run out the back.... can i get any advice on that.... ((P.S. i want to run them in front of the tires, but dont know if that would interfere with off roading))

You may want to post this in the 2nd Generation Dakota subforum. I will move it there for you.

I would say stay away from "true duals" on the 3.9. First off i think you would be ok running a Y-pipe off the manifolds and then spliting near the rear axle. Second i dont think you will gain any power going with duals then you would running a good Y-pipe system and that by its self could save you a good chunk of change (only one muffler and half the pipe) You can still run dual out lets out the back by spliting the exhaust over or around the axle. I also think you will get a better sound. When i had my 95 3.9 i did the same thing and found the exhaust tone to be very loud and raspy. It was louder then my 91 318 with almost the exact same set up.

Not worth it on a 3.9, end of story.

ok... well what about with sensors and stuff. if i made it a true dual system, would that mess with any sensors, since there'll be two cats instead of one or any other reason....
