Default What is a "PCM" ?

I know I'm going to sound like a dumbass....but
I bought a 98 Dakota about 2 months ago and the cruise control just stopped working. After looking though many posts I think I know whats wrong, or where to start looking.

However I seen many of you referring to a "PCM" what is it?
Power control modual?
Thought I'd ask.
Thanks

It's technically a Powertrain Control Module. It refers to the computer that runs the engine and transmission and emissions related stuff. Then there is a Body Control Module (BCM) that runs everything else electrical.

The Front Control Module (FCM) is a micro controller based module located in the right front corner of the engine compartment. The front control module mates to the power distribution center to form the Integrated Power Module (IPM). The IPM connects directly to the battery and provides the primary means of circuit protection and power distribution for all vehicle electrical systems. The FCM controls power to some of these vehicle systems electrical and electromechanical loads based on inputs received from hard wired switch inputs and data received on the CAN bus circuit.
Is that a good enough description?
