Default 97 Dakota Transmission Fluid change

My buddy owns a 97 Dakota 4x4 V8 automatic transmission with about 158k miles on it. In 8 months he drove 30k miles and I think time for a transmission fluid change. I would like to do the tranny fluid change for him since transmission shops are rip offs with their BS. Anyway I need know the right steps to do the change.

questions>>>

1. What type of transmission fluid should I put in his truck and how many quarts need to be added?

2. What type of filter should I buy and does the gasket need to be replaced?

3. What else should I replace during the transmission change?

4. Should I mix any Lucas tranny fluid in the truck?

Thanks

You will need ATF 3+
For the filter they all are the same. But get a Cork gasket. The rubber moves around to much. DO NOT use any RTV.

Automatic Transmission: 42RE and 46RE 9.0L-10.4L "dry fill" (dropping the pan and replacing the filter takes about 4-5 quarts)

ATF+4 is newer, better, and compatible.

rubber is a much better gasket IMO. cork is crap. i will never use cork.

dont put in any additives. ever.

I never had any luck with the rubber. ALWAYS moved on me. But I don't even use the cork.

The TRUE best gasket is dealer. Which is plastic with a O-Ring style seal on it.
