Default Help Please!!!

I am new to the site, I just bought my Dakota this past week. I need some help please. I have searched the site and read all the posts concerning my question, but I have not found one that matches the issues that I am having.

I bought a used 1999 Dakota club car 4x4 with the V8. I brought the truck home and everything was fine. Two days later I went out and started the truck and the check engine light was on. I took it and had it scanned and it is coming back with a P0753 code. So I have been told that it is a bad solenoid. However, I have been told that there are numerous other things it could be.

The funny part is that the light is only on when the truck is cold. I live in Ohio so right now the temps are in the teens. I started the truck earlier today and drove it for about ten minutes, it shifts fine even when the light is on. After ten minutes I turned the truck off and restarted and the code was gone. I brought the truck home and let it sit for a few hours, then restarted and the light was back on.

As I mentioned, even when the light is on the truck shifts fine and I have all gears including OD.

Any ideas?

This is what our list of codes says about it. It looks like just the OD system. Check all wires that connect to the transmission.

Also you should post this in the 2nd Generation Dakota sub forum. I will move it there for you.

P0753 (M) Transmission 3-4 Shift Soleniod/Transmission Relay Circuits An open or shorted circuit detected in the overdrive solenoid control circuit or trans relay circuit in JTEC RE transmissions . Was MIL code 45.

P0753 (M) Transmission 3-4 Shift Soleniod/Transmission Relay Circuits An open or shorted condition detected in the transmission 2-4 shift solenoid circuit (4-speed auto. Trans. Only).

OK everyone, I really need some help here. The truck now only has 2nd and 3rd gear. I have read many posts and it does not sound like it is too hard of a fix. I went to Advance auto today and they said that there are many solenoid options for my Dakota. What do I need to buy?

While I am in there I am going to take the advise that I read in a previous post and replace all the solenoids. Any ideas on which ones I need?

Please help me figure this out. Thank you in advance.
