Ok, forget the pressure plate comment then... that would show the same symptoms as a bad hydraulic system. Did you feel how far up the pedal it took to start the truck rolling? If that feel normal, it must be a syncro problem.

Well if it feels like it engages sooner than it used to as you release the clutch pedal, then you probably need a new clutch and pressure plate.

If it engages normal as you let off the pedal, then its more than likely a syncro problem.

Thats hard to say without being able to see it. A worn clutch disc certainly has no trouble dissengaging, so it can't be the clutch itself. Could be the pressure plate like I mentioned before, but "a little sooner" is not exactly what I had in mind. I hate to say it, but I'm still set on the syncros.

My advice to you is start by changing the fluid with that redline MTL I mentioned before. When you drain the transmission, smell the fluid thats in it. If it smells like the fluid that is in your rear diff, then I'm fairly confident in saying your transmission is toast. If what comes out smells more like what you're putting back in with that redline mtl, then run the redline for a few days and see if it clears up your problem. If the problem is still there, then replace the clutch and pressure plate, and if that doesn't fix it, find someone who will rebuild an nv3500 (good luck) or get a new one.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RED-50204/ - you need 3 quarts, fill to the bottom of the fill hole.

FWIW, you're supposed to change manual transmission fluid every 25-30,000 miles. I don't know how long its been since yours has been changed, but I'm just saying.

well thank you. you have been really helpful. im trying to learn to do all this myself so this forum is gonna come in real handy. if i can get it to a garage today im changing the fluid. when i say "a little sooner" i mean i went about 4 months of not driving it and when i finally got it back it seemed to engaged almost as soon as you let off in 1st gear and i dont think it was like that before. and im sure its overdue for a fluid change. thank you again for your help and you will probably hear from me again.

I bet its the clutch dragging. I had this problem once when I somehow got some air in my hydraulic clutch line. The way I fixed it, was I lifted up on the clutch pedal about an inch or so past where it sits normally and then pushed it all the way down. I also pumped the clutch pedal a little bit. I don't know if the people here will recommend doing that, it just worked for me. But for all I know, it may cause more problems then good...

Well based on all the hours of searching and talking to people Ive come to the conclusion its the pressure plate and I am just going to replace the clutch. And so not looking forward to that since its like -3 here today. But its gotta be done. Then I can move on to the other issues it has.
