Regular cab 97 speaker configuration
Hi, been doing a lot of reading here, but not finding anything about Reg cab stereos. I just bought my truck used with a aftermarket deck that had power, but no sound. The speakers I can see are a tweeter and a 6.5" speaker on the door, which I read means I had an Infinity system at 1 time. I guess I have to bypass the factory amp to get sound. Anyway, I checked and found no other speakers, are the obvious ones on the doors the only ones? Remember, this is a regular cab. Thanks
Don't forget the "antenna on" wire or whatever it is called. Without that the factory amp won't turn on and you will get power but no sound. Took me about a week to figure that one out. I ended up bypassing the factory amp anyways.
Hi Primus, I was going to start a new thread, but since you mentioned it... I can't find the amp, I read it was behind the passenger side kick plate, I checked behind where you put your feet and the sail plate to the right with no luck. If I have to go through the amp for now, that's ok, do you know what color wire it is? Or does anyone know where my amp is?
The wire is either blue or blue with white stripes, I forget. The amp -is- under the passenger kick panel (on the side), but its tucked pretty far up there.
As for bypassing the amp, I used the power on and ground from the factory harness and just ran speaker wire straight from the head unit to the speakers.

The amplifier remote on wire should be green with an orange stripe. Check to see the blue/white wire on the aftermarket radio is connected to it. As for the amp itself it is in the passenger's side kickpanel, bolted to to metal surface behind the plastic trim panel. It's about an inch thick, has heat sinks on one side and will probably have an Infinity logo on it and a Mopar logo too. It's not very big, maybe 4 inches wide by 6 inches long. And it's black. If you don't have the amp there, it has been removed. If so and there still is no sound, chances are there is a grounded speaker lead. Pull the radio and check each individual speaker wire with an ohm meter for continuity to ground. It could also be a shorted speaker too, and the ohm meter should help you identify a blown speaker. Then you can either run a new wire from the radio to the speaker if there is a grounded speaker wire or replace any blown speakers you have. Aftermarket radios will mute their outputs to protect them if there is a shorted speaker wire or a damaged speaker.
