Default 03 Dakota 3.9L rear end.

ok my friends dad has a 03 Dakota 4x4 with the 3.9L in it. The rear diff just blew, and im looking at getting a whole rear assembly for him...

When looking on car-part.com, they had the 9.25 axle and a 8.25(or somthing) axle, both with 3.55 gears.

Ive looked for tags, under the hood, glovebox, and on the diff to tell me but i just dont know...what rear end do these typiclly have?

and to replace the whole rear end, just unbolt it from the leaf springs, driveshaft and all the lines/connections right? then it should come out?

I would be willing to bet that that truck has the 3.92:1 ratio front and rear end. there is a formula for figuring out which it is by counting the teeth on the gears but it escapes me this early in the day. Try looking through the F.A.Q. on here. i think it's count both gears and divide the ring by the pinion.

i think you can also jack the car up and count how many times the driveshaft turns with one wheel rotation. dont quote me though.

they are both 3.55 gears...

when i searched, it asked if it was a 9.25 axle 3.55 gears, or a 8. something axle with 3.55 gears....i need to know the axle cuz im replaceing the whole rear end.
