I get 22mpg out of mine, I run 100% gasoline, and I drive 60mph on the highway. Simply enough, the hydrogen does not work.

According to the conservation of energy law, it can't work, but plenty of people claim they do, I'm not buying it..

i don't plan to get super deep into the engine, since i'm not building up a race truck or anything. i will want to do the basics: air intake, exhaust, chip etc. it sounds like the 4.7L would do the trick.

are there any common issues with dakotas that i should be aware of? certain parts wear out fast, or the factory ones suck? that kind of thing.

BALL JOINTS BALL JOINTS BALL JOINTS !! lol i had mine replaced the day i bought my 03 due to the recall from dodge.. and ive gone thru 3 wheel bearings on right side.. dealer could never figure out why.. i dont haul or pull anything on a regular basis.. its a 4.7 v8 03 clubcab SLT..

but i will say my 4.7 has towed a full size uhaul trailer loaded down with no issues..and other then the recall and the odd wheel bearings knock on wood ive had no issues.. granted ive been the only owner and i baby my vechicles since i live in the country and everything is 1 hr away from to get places.. i dont want to be broke on side of road.. but i bought truck with 3 miles on it and its got 99k now..

Is yours a regular cab or 2wd? I forget they put the 4.7 in a RC's and 2wd. I guess I can see doing a little better with that configuration. Is that 22 mpg highway or city or both? I get around 19 highway.

A friend of mine did A LOT of research into hydrogen. For school and personal reasons. He ended up building his own hydrogen kit for his '82 CJ w/ a 360. He went from 12 mpg to around 20 mpg. It worked.

Good deal. The only part that sucks about ball joints are the bottum ones. They are press in. So either you need a press, or you need torches and BFH.

is the press a pain to work with? i don't mind picking up the right tools for the job, especially if it lets me save money by not taking my truck to a mechanic.

I don't think you will be disappointed. My 98 4x4 Sport V8 extended cab is my third Dakota. I wasn't dead set on another Dakota when looking but this one came along and the price was very right. This link is very informative on the 5.2 and 4.7. I really like the 5.2 in my truck but after reading about the 4.7 it sounds really sweet.
