Default 98 dakota with engine light on p0720

i have a 98 dakota with engine light on i scaned it and its saying p0720 output speed sensor circuit malfunction so i guess i need a new one but where is it i was told its not the one on the axle b/c my speedo is working fine is this right ? and that i need the one on the tranny but where on the tranny anyone no? thanks

First whenever you get a code you always want to reset the computer to verify that it wasn't a fluke. If it pops back up then yes your best choice is to replace the speed sensor. It will be at the back end of the transmission on a 2wd. On a 4wd it will be at the beak end of the transfer-case.
