Just got a 3.9 from a friend but don't know what year it is how can I tell what year it is

 

The code stamp on the block. Go to www.google.com and search for Dodge Magnum engine casting numbers. There is not as much info out there for the dodge let alone magnums. Just take your time.

But just to let you know the basics of the engine is the same as other years.
