Default Need help identifying tranny.

I have a '97 Dodge Dakota 4x4 and need to rebuild the tranny. I need help identifying what I have and am looking for an overhaul manual for this model. From what I have found, I either have a 44RE or 46RE. Which is correct? Any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone has a manual for this I am willing to buy it. Thanks for any help.

It depends on what engine you got V8 has 46re. V6 is 42re. No 44re! I will move this to the 2nd gen Dakota section for you.

wrong!

42RE - V6
44RE - 318 V8
46RE - 360 V8 (Dakota R/t)
