Default P/S pump?

Hello. Back again for some advice maybe. 98 Dakota 4x4 (V6) As some of you know I did front end work over summer (ball joints, tie rods, PS BOX, tires and alignment) Well everything was beautiful until recently. Seemed to get "squirrely " (spelling?LOL) again. I know in the last few weeks I really hit a few potholes kind of hard but not that hard. Anyway it seemed as though the wheel might possibly not be returning all the way to center but can't tell for sure - I am only talking about the last two inches or so and that is a vague description and not all the time (actually I don't think it ever did!) I jacked up real fast and as I suspected it is perfectly tight. Just as an experiment I loosened the adjustment nut on top of the box maybe 1/3 of a turn ( I know it isn't really the correct procedure ) Well long story short I swear it is much better. My original box I put on was bad and I was advised by my alignment guy to get it off there. Under warranty so I did and then he aligned it and it was beautiful. Personally I didn't fell any difference between the two but whatever. I felt the difference after he aligned it because it was WAY out. Anyway should I just go with it and be happy? Two bad boxes??? NAh.. Also my pump is starting to groan. Could this have something to do with it? P/S assist feels absolutely fine. I might be getting rid of it after all
