Coolant LOW= Rough Winter?
I live in Michigan, we kinda had a rough winter and when I checked my coolant level it was lookin pretty low..I checked for leaks, and did not find any... I was just wondering if using the heat alot will burn some coolant up or something?
Funny thing is, I noticed you were from Michigan, and I realized I never peeked at the coolant level the other day, and since it was so unseasonably nice outside today, I decided to go check my coolant level out...

It is "pretty low" as you said (OK - it is incredibly low). I don't think I have any leaks (at least none that I can find) so I am wondering, what the heck happened to my antifreeze?

Any ideas?
Guess it is time to drain it out and replace it.

Um, well some coolant loss is expected over a period of time. It's not that it gets burned or anything, but it does break down. I'm not really sure why the coolant seems to slowly disappear, but...
Just top it off, and then check it again in a week or so. Also, check your oil dipstick. Look for a milky color in the oil. Check around your water pump seal and check your radiator as well. Look for any rotted coolant lines.

I think its something with winter mine was a lil lower than what it normally is and yesterday I checked my sisters and it was really low then I pulled the dip stick and found where it was going. As long as its not in your oil you dont have to worry about it too much cause doing a head gasket or replacing a head is a pita. So it looks like this weekend ill be helping my bro in law do that.
I think it's a pretty common thing. I've noticed all of our vehicles "lose" coolant over time. Just check for obvious signs of a leak though and yeah it might have broken down enough that it's time for some fresh stuff.
Well I checked the oil and it wasnt milky.. Thats a relief, but any how I was going to install a 180* TStat this summer but I will probably just have to do it this weekend, now that the coolants low.. How much coolant does it take to fill it up after I drain it and put 180* in? Thanks
