Default Water causing electrical problems

2004 V6 Dakota. Almost every time I drive through puddles, deep or shallow, and water splashes underneath the truck, my power flickers and the truck shuts off. I lose power steering, all radio and air functions, lights...it's very unnerving, especially when pulling into traffic! I try to avoid the puddles, but that's just not always possible. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Check your battery to engine ground and your engine to frame ground. Make sure they are clean and tight. Also check the ground cable on your battery. Again, make sure it's clean and tight.
Check all electrical connections under the hood, specifically the ones under the truck, close to the frame or suspension. Make sure everything is tight.

If all of this checks out, check your PCM for codes.

Sounds like a loose ground issue to me. Or a bad ground. They can be a bitch to find.
Good luck.

Check the rubber grommet on the crankshaft position sensor too. If the ckp gets wet the truck won't run.
