Default Please help! Leak and white smoke...from under car!

Hey everyone,

Yesterday night, after driving about 10 miles, I realized there was smoke coming from underneath my car. I drive a 2003 Dodge Dakota, and this is very new to me. It was a orange(ish) color fluid, dripping onto a hot pipe of some sort causing the white smoke. My coolant is green, so I know its not that. I think it might be my transmission fluid...any suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like a transmission leak. I will move this to the 2nd Generation Dakota sub forum.

Yeah, definately sounds like a trans or power steering leak. did you notice any change in performance? Are you still driving it?

The performance of my car is honestly still good...I'm hoping its just a leak and not a replacement of the whole transmission. I'm trying to avoid driving it...I don't want to do more damage. Do you know how much a transmission leak repair can run for? Any estimation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the responses!

Depends on where it's leaking from. If it's leaking from the pan, it'll be cheap, but i doubt it's leaking from the pan if it's dripping on the exhaust. It's probably leaking from the torque converter seal (Or in that area) which can cost a bit more.

But it really depends on where it's leaking from.

try taking it up to a valvoline. there they can probably tell you where its leaking and usually wont cost you much if anything. if it was a hose or something then they could more than likely fix it there.
