Exclamation Clicking noise on steering column in the dashboard?

From the searches i've found this to be a common issue... but, not quite sure how to fix it.

when i turn the steering wheel in the driveway, the steering column clicks from under the dashboard.

Will this cause me to have an accident or sudden loss of control while driving?

please help.
thank you

i think mine does the same thing just like one click per revolution, i ignore it. have u checked to see if u have an outstanding recall, ive still gotta get the one fixed with the gear selector coming out of park

it makes a deep click noise every about every 1/2 turn, maybe something on the steering shaft is worn out?

Default clicking noise

Here is a simple test/fix. Takes just a few minutes.I had this problem too. Follow the steering column down to where is goes down to the floorboard. There is a bearing there that is held down by two bolts. Undo the bolts and just slide the bearing up the shaft so it just hangs there and then turn the wheel and see if the noise is gone. What I did was just put some grease on my finger and wipe on the bearing and reinstall and presto...total silence. There was a recall somewhere that had the dealer moving the column slightly but I think this is basically doing the same thing by removing and reinstalling the bearing so it kind of shifts position slightly.
Nothing to lose
