Default Headlamp issues

Hi all. I have a 2001 Dakota sport cc. I am experiencing the following issues:

1. Low beams will work. When I select high beams all the headlamps go out and the panal dimming goes back to daytime illumination. So no high beams.

2. At night driving about once an hour the exterior lights will go out all together. Quite scarey. They will go back on quick or even quicker if I play with the light switch.

3. Fog lamps won't turn on at all.

4. Sometimes, but rarely, the dash panal lights will freak out and flicker repeatedly for a few seconds.

Any advice? I've been trying to find a headlamp fuse or relay to check...can't seem to find one. Thanks

CTM? (Central Timer Module)

It's a common issue. Causes a hole bunch of controls to go haywire.

Dealer part only. Has to be programed to your truck and only the dealer can do it.

If you do go to the dealer though, make sure you have correctly diagnose the problem. Don't just tell them to put a CTM in it. They should properly diagnosis anyway, but I've seen people at dealers throw parts at trucks that their customers tell them to and it doesn't fix the problem.

most likely the ctm
i replaced mine a couple months ago

one thing to be aware of if u dont have the power options (doors, windows, mirrors, etc) just buy the part from dodge and put it in urself, literaly takes 1min just remove driverside kick panel and tada there it is. this is what i did mine cost ~$250

if u have power options just ask them how much to program, buy it install in parking lot then have them program prolly save some money

If he has OE fog lights he may have all the other power options too. Still he can save a little money if he installs the new CTM himself and gets the dealer to program it. If you have the power options be sure to take both of your keyless entry remote control fobs with you-the keyless is part of the new CTM and they have to be programmed to the new CTM too, otherwise the keyless won't work.

Before going through the hassle of buying a new CTM though I would get a Haynes Book for the truck and read the instructions and diagrams there for checking the headlight switch and multifunction switch with a multimeter first. It sounds like the problems the OP is having could be due to a bad switch. $20.00 for a Haynes book is a lot less than a new CTM and programming.

I think the headlight fuses and relays are in the Power Distribution Center next to the battery. The relays and fuses are probably OK in this situation though.

dont think oe fog lights has anything to do with it, mine came with fogs stock and no power options, although my truck is fairly rare slt model with no power opts
