Thumbs down Front Transmission Seal Fix

Well after putting about 5k miles on my junkyard tranny, it appears the front seal has blown out (and yes i did replace it). I've got fluid all over the front of the transmission and bell housing. it also happens to be all over the back of my truck, up in the wheel wells, pretty much everywhere.

Because I do not have the time or patience to take the transmission out and put it back in again, i have to take it to a shop. so my question is, how much should i expect to pay for such a procedure? i have never taken any vehicle to a shop for anything, and i know these transmissions are a b*tch to remove.

any ballpark ideas would be appreciated. my funds are kinda limited being a college kid and all.

Well I think they'll find lots wrong and try to get you to pay for a complete rebuild!

I bet $600 just for the removal!

Looking into my crystal ball...

The tranny shop is gonna start you out at at least $1500 for a quote. AT LEAST.

how much fluid have you lost? To remove it isn't that bad... Get some of those drive on wheel things for the front. Get a transmission jack or borrow one...

Last transmission I removed I got it out in 2-3 hours tops. but I had just removed it. Also air tools make your life SO EASY.

Did that once already--dont have the time or patience to do it again. I've lost about 3 quarts in a couple weeks. It's leaking to the point where i can see the way i pull into my driveway based on the trail of fluid i leave.

I'm hoping they don't need to rebuild it. They quoted me $590 if it is the seal that is leaking. He even told me he would call me to come in and look once they pulled it out.
